KIREI

cleaning jewelleries to explore and express a holistic approach to life

“A human being is part of the whole, called by us “Universe”; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely but the striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.”
Albert Einstein

The survival of our planet and ourselves depends on the realization that we are part of the environment. We need to re-conceptualize our relationship and maximize our connective participation. This is not a merely theoretical idea; it has to come through direct and immediate experiences.

Cleaning as a practice is the first step towards this understanding. Praising purity, it affects our body and mind in equal measure. Through cleaning, we express our respect and appreciation towards ourselves, others and our direct surrounding. We learn to reconnect with our physical environment and internalize it by actively engaging with it. Cleaning changes our awareness and perception. It promotes independence, helpfulness, and consideration. Moreover, we learn to correlate our actions with their cause and effect. Necessary to maintain a healthy equilibrium, cleaning is part of our life as a recurrent cycle.
With this project we aim to praise cleaning as religious atheism, practiced through daily rituals of cleaning one's body, direct surrounding, and the environment. Kirei is a set of cleaning utensils designed to promote this cleaning activities while metaphorically expressing their value. The collection consist of three parts: “Litter-Rings” to collect rubbish a “Dust- Bracelet” to care for once direct surrounding and “Pollution-Necklace” for cleaning face and body.
